Shawnee State Park

WHAT TO DO: Camping, hiking, bicycling, fishing, hunting, swimming, boating, snowmobiling, sledding, and ice fishing. The park conducts regular summer program of nature walks and evening campfires with discussions, movies and slides.

GROUP RIDES: LHORBA hosts group rides on Thursday evenings at 6:30 (weather permitting). Meet at the Fireside Inn on Route 30 in Schellsburg. Rides are typically 10 to 15 miles, and open to all levels of riders. Please stay hydrated and bring plenty to drink. HELMETS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL RIDERS.

NOTES: 3,983 acres of scenic Ridge and Valley Province with a focal point of the Park in the 451 acre Shawnee Lake. Named for the American Indians who lived for a short time in the vicinity of the park during the westward migration from the Potomac in the early 1700's. General Forbes camped his army within the boundaries of the park while building the Forbes Road in the campaign of 1758 against the French at Fort Duquesne, Pittsburgh. You can still walk remnants of the forbes Trail within the park.
